Boost Infinite is dead...Long live the new Boost Mobile

I wonder if this is all part of a plan by AT&T and Verizon to not get slapped with anti-trust suits once Dish kicks the bucket.

Naive question–Do I actually NEED the Boost app on my phone to operate properly. I prefer to use laptop for accounts and now that’s an option, I wonder what if the App is actually needed. Am on Autopay + get emails as well.

Just looked since it’s past deadline, it alerts to update app with Major News. Am past deadline but says …“For a limited time you can still use the Boost Infinite app to manage you account and pay your bill. But you will eventually need to download the Boost Mobile app.” Is that all the app does…I rarely looked at it.

This reminds me…I still don’t trust Boost and had intended to switch but they claimed my phone was locked to RW and held hostage until August. I had purchased a Tello SIM which expired. Phone used mostly for calls & text, sits at home. So it’s time to deal with this but until then, question remains…is the App needed at all?

If service is working, you don’t need to do anything with Boost’s apps.

As I understand it, the Boost Mobile app is not needed to use the service. It is, theoretically anyway, useful for account management.

When first setting up a phone for use with Boost or if something stops working, installing the separate Boost Config app may help.

August of 2024 or 2025?

Go ahead and swap the Tello SIM into the phone in place of the Boost SIM. The Tello SIM doesn’t need to be activated for this. Does the phone complain about being locked or the Tello SIM being incompatible?

Generally, if not, the phone is already unlocked. Also, in my experience, you probably could activate the “expired” Tello SIM (should you establish the phone is already unlocked). Otherwise, when you’re ready, a new Tello SIM is $3 at Amazon.

I had long post about my RW phone issue w/many comms w/BI. Intended to file FCC complaint but life got in the way this year. Tello had already nicely refunded me and their customer service excellent. I still have Tello account and will get new SIM (expired) then officially port out of Boost. Tello already straightened this out and said I’d have to get new SIM–OK w/that + am going to speak with Boost.

It’s more than about $$, concerned about future of Boost + how they handled my situation. They probably think I was satisfied with just having the RW credit discount extended. They DID listen to my complaints about receiving text notifications at 2AM saying “Your bill is ready.” Now they come during reasonable hours. Have to look it up but think am now “allowed” out of Boost. RW phone was paid in full and I went through process of unlocking it before deadline but BI claimed it’s locked and they “can’t” unlock it until Aug 2024 (or when switchover occurred).

As for the App, I’ll update it until port out complete. Coincidentally, had to replace an XFIN gateway yesterday. Already have internet account but didn’t have that app on phone. Had to download it to video device QR code to setup. Don’t need that app for account mgmt because monthly bill is $0.00 through 3rd party. So once I got that running, uninstalled that unneeded app from phone; prefer laptop access.

Thanks!

I will probably not find out what they were doing, but Boost rebooted the SIM again today. No obvious changes that I can see.

My phone also recently “reboosted” and received the Emergency Alert settings message which turned them ALL back on (were Off). So I turned all off, except earthquakes. Now scratching head about a missing persons alert/voicemail received at 11PM last night from a local police dept. I rechecked and all alerts are OFF???

The alerts setting has no control over phone calls and voicemail. If they are calling you about a missing person, perhaps there is a way to unsubscribe from such calls from your local police department?

Gets rid of some of Dish’s debt and gains them $1 in capital. It also eliminates ~2/3 of their revenue.

It also means both are under an equity firm, they will be gone in no time.

I don’t know. There’s still some time to profit from the winding down of satellite TV. Until broadband reaches the rural hinterlands there will be a demand for satellite pay TV.

Gone eventually, I agree. Gone soon, where? Who would want to buy them? TPG will bleed whatever remaining revenue they can from the assets before ultimately disposing of what’s left but it will take time.

The critical piece is TPG is refinancing the $2 billion due in November.

This is a risky bet. Where are the future revenues to fund completion of the 5G network and, more to the point, acquisition of the tens of millions of subscribers needed to populate that network coming from? HughesNet? New debt?

The market seems not to be taking the news well:

So, the company that bought RW is worth $1!
