A new identity theft method

Well, it’s new to me anyway. I received an alert from my bank this morning regarding a new means used to steal one’s identity. It involves methods (such as Captcha) used by websites to verify one is human rather than a bot.

Generally, when a website asks to verify one’s humanity, it does so by asking one to click on a series of pictures.

This new means asks one to enter a series of keystrokes. Bottom line; no legitimate website will ask that one enter keystrokes on their device to prove they are not a bot. If you run into this, you’ve either been redirected to a fake website or the website you are using has been compromised.

Years ago, I remember getting a picture of distorted letters/numbers and having to type that in as verification of being human. I haven’t seen them recently, but most of my websites already have me “verified”.
Is that the same thing you are talking about?
