Android Gallery app -- ads?

I got a new phone (Moto gPower 2021)

When I try to view photos, etc on the Gallery app, I get ads – long video ads about games, TikTok, and then I’m sent to the Google Play store, with no ability to do anything in Gallery.

I can live without Gallery, but has anyone experienced this, and if so, how do I get rid of those ads?

Thanks!

Hi @NancyM,

Welcome to rwusers!

Did you install the Gallery app from the play store, or was it already on the phone? I suspect you’re using an app that’s posing as the Google Gallery app, but isn’t really.

Try this…

  1. Open the Play Store app.
  2. Tap your profile picture at top right
  3. Tap Manage apps & device
  4. Tap the word “Manage” near the top
  5. Find your Gallery app on the list, and tap it

You should now be looking at a screen that has the name of the app above an “Uninstall” and a “Open” or “Update” button.

Just under the name of the app, it lists the company that developed the app. Is that something other than “Google, LLC”? If so, go ahead and hit “Uninstall” and get that add-infested poser off your phone. (Who knows what else it might be doing, since it has permission to view your images!)

Then look for the Photos app to view your pictures, or install the Gallery app that’s actually developed by Google.

That was it exactly! The app was pre-installed, and it’s by SB Studio.

This is an evil thing for them to do! We can’t trust anything anymore!

Thanks for solving this!
