I cancelled my Boost account, or thought I did, but the confirmation email said “Your line is being removed from your account,” not “your account will be cancelled,” and today I got notice of a credit to my account for my next bill. I only have one line on the account, so once it is removed, the account will be useless. Surely they won’t keep billing me for a useless account?
They shouldn’t bill you in the future but this is Boost, so, who knows. If it were me, I’d delete the payment method, if possible, or change it to something that cannot be charged.
As an aside, the old RW didn’t fully close accounts either. Like Boost, the account remained open but inactive with no working lines of service. In and of itself, companies leaving accounts open but inactive, while not ideal, isn’t unusual.
Thanks, @rolandh! I’ll look into deleting the payment method. I didn’t realize that keeping inactive accounts around isn’t unusual. If anything weird happens with the billing, I’ll update.
While I can’t be sure about all of them, some companies that hold an account after cancellation are hoping you’ll reactivate at some later date, and they want as little friction as possible for that process.
