Next they’ll redefine the term “high speed data.”
I think they already have done so. Infinite’s “flagship” postpaid service is QCI9 deprioritized data on AT&T’s network. There are prepaid services offering higher priority data than that. Worse, unless I’m mistaken, the new “Speed Pass” Add-On gets you an additional 20GB (for a total of 50 GB) of deprioritized “high-speed” data. There is no priority data. In its present incarnation, perhaps, it should be rebranded Boost Finite?
I think you are right about “speed Pass.” I am hoping that the rainbow sim will fix that when one is able to connect to Dish’s 5G network.
DISH’s EVP for Retail Wireless with specific responsibility for both Boost brands, Stephen Stokols, is leaving:
Some here may remember Stephen Stokols as the founder of FreedomPop, which he sold to Red Pocket prior to joining DISH.
He follows another executive, Stephen Bye, who left in January 2023 and was the Chief Commercial Officer for DISH Wireless. In other words, it was his job to figure out how to make the greenfield 5G network profitable:
Mr. Bye took a seat on DISH’s Board of Directors, however, has not been directly replaced in the C Suite.
He’s actually not new to DISH having previously retired from DISH in 2015. The press release states Mr. Kelly has “strong” experience in the technology and telecom industries but fails to mention any specific telecom industry experience. Among his previous gigs at DISH, he ran the Blockbuster (as in Blockbuster video) brand. Yup, DISH owns that brand also.
