Have any of you caught the e-bike bug?

I was an avid cyclist when I was younger, and still have quite a collection of high end bikes. As I got older I cycled less. Bad knees and and gaining weight kept me off of cycling for a number of years. On a whim I picked up one of the cheapest e-bikes I could find (Jasion EB5 Roamer). It’s basically a cheap department store bike with an electric hub motor. I’ve had so much fun with this thing in the last couple weeks it’s amazing. I live on a bluff overlooking a river, and climbing up the bluff has become a fun afterthought. Just curious if anyone else out there has had a chance to try an e-bike.

I developed a problem with falling over when starting or stopping a regular bike. Not constant, but often enough to be irritating. I doubt that an e-bike would be different in this respect. I tried a manual standing scooter and found that bits of gravel are a big problem,. I ended up with a standing e-scooter. I was surprised at how much exercise simply balancing on one of those is. The major advantage I find is that if I have a balance issue, I just step off. This only happens at very low speeds when starting or stopping. I’m getting more exercise now and seeing little corners of my city that I’d never gotten around to before.

We rented a couple of e-bikes a couple of years ago when we were visiting Hilton Head during the offseason. Riding on the beach was a blast. The rental agreement allowed it (just stay out of the water). Low end bikes, no throttle, but they were so much fun. One of these days we’ll actually take the plunge and buy a couple.
