If you own an Obihai device (analog telephone adapter or IP phone), the ObiTalk provisioning portal itself will be sunset as of October 31, 2024. Previously, various Obihai devices, particularly analog telephone adapters, reached “end of life” status (no support) and the ObiTalk portal already no longer supports those devices. OBi IP phones, however, remain supported (for now).
You do not need to give up on or replace an otherwise functioning OBihai device due to the forthcoming portal shutdown on October 31st. Obihai devices also have a local web interface that may be accessed from a computer or tablet connected to the same network.
Most anything that can be done from the OBiTalk portal can be done from the local interface.
The glaring exception is provisioning Google Voice on an Obihai device. Google Voice provisioning was never built in to the local interface. Existing provisioned Google Voice service should continue to work on Obihai devices until such time as Google does something (which they may or may not do) to change that. If, however, one were to factory reset their Obihai device, they would lose Google Voice provisioned service with no official way to restore it.
There is a somewhat (but not impossibly so) complex workaround for provisioning Google Voice service using the local interface. It does involve flashing (not as bad as it sounds) alternative firmware on an Obihai device.
