Hi @henry51,
Exactly how it’s supposed to work with suspended service. It’s only after a line is inactive long enough for service to be canceled - as opposed to suspended - there would be an issue.
Hi @henry51,

Tello supports WiFi calling on most phones. Please remind me which phones you are currently using?
Tello, however, uses T-Mobile’s network rather than Verizon’s If you prefer Verizon service, I suggest looking at MobileX or US Mobile. MobileX uses Verizon’s network while US Mobile offers a choice of AT&T (Dark Star), T-Mobile (Light Speed) or Verizon (Warp). Ultimately, I expect to move my former Mobi line to either MobileX or US Mobile because I already have a line with Tello and want network redundancy. I did the interim port to Tello to move the line quickly. Ports from one Verizon network provider to another sometimes get hung up.
FWIW, I’ve had a spare line on MobileX for over a year. No complaints with the service itself but cannot offer much of an opinion on their customer service as I’ve not had much need for it.
We have Pixel 7a and 9a. The cell coverage in our small town is very sketchy and Verizon seems to be the best coverage for us. We had T-Mobile (I think) with RW and had to depend solely on WiFi. I’ll look at MobileX - but what do you mean that porting from one Verizon to another can sometimes create issues? (P.S. I really, really appreciate your patience with this old lady!)
P.S.S. The Pixel 9a has not been activated yet. We just ordered it. Should I port the old, bad battery 7a to Tello before changing to the 9a?
Hi @AuntTC,
Wi-Fi calling is working on my former legacy Mobi line now with Tello. The phone is a Pixel 9a. I also tested Wi-Fi calling on the Pixel 9a using my spare MobileX line, which also worked.
Are you using eSIM or physical SIMs with Mobi? If eSIM, I wouldn’t try moving service to the new phone. If physical SIMs, it is fine to just move the physical SIM from old to new phone.
When one ports from one provider using Verizon’s network (e.g. Mobi) to another provider using Verizon’s network (e.g. MobileX), this is considered an intra-carrier port rather than an inter-carrier port because the number itself while moving from one provider to the next is staying on the same network (in this example Verizon).
Theoretically, intra-carrier ports should be faster than inter-carrier ports but, it has been my experience, it sometimes ends up an intra-carrier port takes longer than inter-carrier ports. I’ve found this to be particularly true with providers using Verizon’s network. Out of an abundance of caution and because I wanted the port done in minutes rather than hours or days, I decided to use Tello as something of a middle man.
I’m also holding off on a final destination for my now former Mobi number until I see what MobileX, US Mobile and, perhaps, others offer in terms of Black Friday deals.
I don’t think there is a need for you to panic as far as porting out of Mobi is concerned. That said, unless something changes with Mobi in the interim, I do suggest doing so before the start of your next Mobi bill cycle.
I think some folks over on Reddit are hyperventilating a bit over this but here is some more information about the situation at Mobi:
To me, it appears there is a fight for control of the company. Without access to the docket, I’m not even going to attempt judgement. I’ll leave that for the court to sort out.
The bottom line, however, is subscribers are collateral damage at this point. @AuntTC and others, it’s time to port your number(s) out now!
Otherwise, Happy Thanksgiving! ![]()
Well, MobileX and USMobile have Black Friday sales …. But I don’t know what to do
I have decision paralysis! Help???
Hi @AuntTC,
It really depends on how much cell data you need or want?
With US Mobile, you need to decide which network you want to be on - AT&T (Dark Star), T-Mobile (Light Speed) or Verizon (Warp) then see if the specific deal you’re looking at is available for that network. For example, US Mobile’s Black Friday “67” deal is for T-Mobile (Light Speed) network service only. It’s not available for AT&T or Verizon network service.
Beyond that, the Black Friday deals for both MobileX and US Mobile are aimed at those willing to pay annually or for multiple months.
If - like me - you prefer to pay month to month, you’ll need to look past the Black Friday deals though I’m considering MobileX’s annual offer of unlimited talk & text plus 1 GB of cell data for a one-time upfront payment of $70.
If you weren’t using more than 1 GB with Mobi, you can get the same plan - more or less - with either MobileX or US Mobile. Regardless, please don’t let decision paralysis stop you from moving on from Mobi - it’s time. As long as you avoid an annual commitment, - possible with either MobileX or US Mobile - you can always change your plan later.
Roland - is there a reason that you’re considering switching from Tello?
I’m not switching from Tello. I’ve had a line on Tello as well as Mobi. I moved the Mobi line temporarily to Tello to secure my former Mobi number. I’ll be moving the former Mobi number to either MobileX or US Mobile - probably MobileX. When all is said and done, I’ll still have one line with Tello and the former Mobi line with either MobileX or US Mobile.
If T-Mobile’s network is good for you then Tello is a fine choice but I thought you indicated Verizon’s network was better in your area. Where I’m at both T-Mobile and Verizon are good but I’m also in a hurricane prone area, so like to keep lines on more than one network.
Well, Mobi has screwed me but good.
My billing date is the 26th of the month. Didn’t really notice that I didn’t get the payment confirmation email this month. But I certainly did notice when yesterday, Thanksgiving day of course, I suddenly couldn’t make any phone calls or send any texts. Then I came here to my old RW family to see what was going on and found this thread.
Long story short, I decided that I wanted to go with US mobile and get a new plan. They are also having a steal of a deal on the new pixel 10, so I’m trying to do that deal with a new annual plan.
Unfortunately, for the first time in my life, visa has decided that they need to send me a confirmation text to complete the purchase! In 20 years of doing business online I have never had visa make such a demand, but they are definitely doing it today on a day when I cannot receive texts!
I even tried just signing up for a $10/mo plan figuring that maybe it was the size of the purchase that was causing the problem. Nope. Can’t even buy a simple plan to get my phone working again.
So I’m stuck with no working phone and no way to even purchase new service for it.
I suggest porting the number to Tello. If your current phone is eSIM capable, you can do what needs to be done on Tello’s website. If you need a physical SIM, the fastest way to get a Tello SIM is Amazon.
Once the number is at Tello - my port took minutes - you’ll be able to receive texts again. You can then port the number from Tello to US Mobile to take advantage of their Pixel 10 deal - presuming it’s still available and you wish to do so.
There would be some modest additional expense involved with the interim port to Tello but you’ll have your number.
You’re right - T-mobile won’t work for us. Looks like MobileX will be the right choice. I’ll move forward with it today. Thank you!
I’m proud to announce that with your help, I have successfully moved both phones to MobileX. I will setup the new 9a sometime next week … at this point both 7a’s are done. One more question … should I be concerned that my Mobi account was setup with autopay and on my credit card?
I ported out of mobi in mid-October and have not seen any attempts by mobi to charge my card since then.
I don’t think so. Worst case scenario - should Mobi charge your card in the future and given the circumstances - I’m confident your card issuer would issue a chargeback.
Thanks for this. My old Motorola Moto G Pure is too old for an eSim, so US mobile is sending me a physical Sim card. So looks like I will be without phone service for a week or so. What fun.
After more than half an hour on hold with the bank (had to borrow a friend’s phone), I was able to finally get them to authorize a $10 payment to US mobile for the new plan. So then I figured I was golden, before realizing I needed a physical Sim. Then it was over 45 minutes on the phone with US Mobile to have them get me as far along in the process as they could and send me the Sim via snail mail.
Once that arrives, I will have to get back on the phone with them (was a 45 minute wait yesterday) to complete the process.
Moral of the story: If your Mobi line is still working, GET OUT NOW! Don’t wait for it to go dead or everything gets a lot more difficult!
Hi @mikenoname,
Do you have Amazon Prime? Why not just order the US Mobile SIM from Amazon?
Or; if you don’t have Amazon Prime, you might consider MobileX. MobileX SIMs are avaialble at most Walmart locations. @AuntTC was able to port her numbers from Mobi to MobileX today.
Thanks Roland for your endless helpfulness!
I just checked and Prime won’t have it here until 12/8 and our little local Walmart is out of stock of the MobileX SIM. So I’m just going to wait for the US Mobile SIM to arrive. Thanks again!
Thanks for the recommendations and info everyone! I was wondering if something was going on with the company. My wife and I lost data access on Tuesday or Wednesday and it never came back. Thankfully we still had regular calling and texting service.
I just ported both our numbers to US Mobile Dark Star in less than 20 minutes via eSim. One phone is a Pixel 4 and the other is an iPhone XR. Can’t believe how quick and easy that was! I got on a month-to-month plan at the same price as my Mobi plan! Roughly $20/month.
