MobileX is getting a network upgrade

Yes, just received this news as a rather cryptic text message. Thanks for the link, and clarification. I haven’t really experienced any problems as far as data speed. I wonder if I’ll notice a difference.

If possible without exposing personal information, would you kindly post a screenshot of the text message? I’ve yet to receive that.

As for the not exactly clear network improvements, currently MobileX routes network traffic through its own cloud servers bypassing the network core of its upstream carrier partner (Verizon). Essentially, pending these improvements, MobileX is doing what the original iteration of Visible was doing.

Whether, like Visible, this is a move to routing network traffic through Verizon’s core directly is unclear. The other possibility for increasing network responsiveness in terms of speed and latency would be adding additional points or presence to the existing cloud core.

Of interest, to me anyway, is the mention there will be no need going forward for manual APN entry. If this means using Verizon’s default APN configuration rather than the current custom MobileX APM, it suggests a move to Verizon’s core directly but time will tell.

Yeah, even streaming 4K requires all of about about 24 Mbps. I like seeing eye-popping speed test numbers as much as the next  but the practical value is questionable.

Yeah here’s the screenshot. I am wondering, in addition to using prioritized Verizon data, MobileX will be somehow utilizing Verizon routing for speed and (perhaps more importantly) reliability reasons. Sounds expensive.

Thanks! So, apparently, it’s just a heads up. My understanding is there will be some form of end user action required. I guess we’ll wait for more information.

I’ll just let this speak for itself:

I received the upgrade email for my mobile X line today. The first step was remove the Mobile X apn profile from my iPad and then click the upgrade link provided. The iPad switched to using Verizon’s default carrier bundle. I didn’t do any before/after speed tests since I only have a 1gb plan.

Yes, I just “upgraded.” Maybe this link works, so you can see the steps? Anyway, deleted the MobileX VPN, then clicked a magic button on the above referenced web page, and presto, it is working without VPN profile that I can see.

Update:
MobileX Launches a Direct Challenge to Visible, Total Wireless, and Mint Mobile–Matches Their Unlimited Plans In-Store, Online and For All Customers, Not Just the New Ones

The “Unlimited” plan may not be so unlimited. There is, apparently, a 480p cap on video streaming resolution and a 10 GB cap on hotspot.

These are also promotional offers expiring December 31, 2024 and may or may not continue after the new year.

We’ll see what happens in January. As it is (just checked), up to now I was paying for and getting 2 gigs of data, now I’m paying for 1 gig and still getting two.
