Repurposed my 'free' Republic account/line

The recent Verizon all-day outage (I havebeen an iPhone user on Verizon for last 5 years). We dug out my Samsung, charged it up and checked it out. After determining that all was good, we fired up my wife’s old iPhone 13 Pro (backup from the sock drawer). It took a phone call, a referral to Tech, and a wait, then it became active.

We now have a working iPhone on a 2nd carrier, giving us the connectivity we desire.

I miss the days of Republic Wireless and its people, hope everone has a good 2026

Nice to see you here again @jBen !

I am curious about the context of your post, though. Do you still have a “free” Republic line, on Boost? Courtesy of something earned back in the Republic Wireless days?

And are the phone calls and referrals to Tech mentioned with Boost, or elsewhere?

Did you fire up both your Samsung AND an iPhone 13, or did a SIM card go from one of those to the other?

Sorry to be a bit picky, but I just wish to understand better.

As a former Ambassador to Republic Wireless we were honored with free service for life (thanks Southpaw)’ and so far they appear to be holding true to their commitment.

Phone calls were to Boost

No Sim swaps, I guess thru the magic of eSim and the tech the front line helper passed us to it was all done by their end

That wasn’t my doing. They granted that perk while I was still an Ambassdor, as well. Thanks is probably owed to one of the many RW staff who felt the Community was a valuable part of the RW experience.

For me, they didn’t honor the full ‘free’ line. They post credit for the value of the old Ambassador line and charge me for the difference to the nearest Boost equivalent.

This works out to my paying about $2.50/month for the Infinite Unlimited plan with add-ons of North America Connect, Boost Infinite Data Hotspot, Boost Infinite North America Connect (yes, they list it twice with slightly different names), and Global Calling.

Whatever other issues there might be, I have to give props to Boost for honoring the Ambassador lines to the degree that they have. Past experience has taught me that most companies would have said “tough rocks” and dumped the liability completely.

The extra coverage is very handy when traveling, as my primary line is on Mint/T-Mobile, and my secondary is Boost/AT&T. Very few completely dead spots.
