Just curious what everyone’s thoughts are regarding using antivirus software on Android phones? I had long shunned the practice, but recently my Pixel 6a started behaving strangely (browser and apps freezing). I decided to install AVG and do a scan which found 1 threat. Unfortunately the threat wasn’t identified by name. Anyway, the threat was quarantined, and things seem to be working more smoothly now.
Just curious what the prevailing opinion is today regarding the need/desire for antivirus apps?

Sorry to be so late to the party but here is my personal opinion on anti-virus software on computing devices, including phones:
The best anti-virus solution is a knowledgeable and cautious user. If you don’t have that, all the anti-virus software in the world won’t completely protect you. This is true even if you could get it all to run on the same platform, at the same time.
I don’t use anti-virus software on my phone and only load apps from the Google Play store. I’m also circumspect regarding the links I click in texts, emails and web pages.
