Video doorbell without the subscription

My aging Ring video doorbell is my primary concession to the so called Internet of Things. The device itself is fine and has served me well but I’m fed up with the ever increasing annual subscription fee. What was $30 for years is now $50.

Does anyone here use or suggest a video doorbell with on device storage or, at least, a more reasonable subscription cost?

I cannot claim personal experience with the video doorbell equipment, only another outdoor IoT device from the brand, but it seems the Wyse line of video doorbells is popular AND has standalone recording capability. The Wyse app has a LOT of options available without any subscription at all. My one and only device is an outdoor plug with energy monitoring, which has worked well for my needs over 2.5 years so far. An example: Wyze Video Doorbell v2 | 2K HD video, works with mechanical chimes

A little more research showed me this Amazon Review which seems to address your request about subscription cost: Amazon.com

Also a Wyze user here.

Something to keep in mind is Wyze now has a history of removing features from their apps and putting them behind their subscription model. The app has gone from basic but with good features to being a barren wasteland of frustration (IMO).

If you do go with Wyze I highly recommend side-loading the final version of their 2.0 app.
