Summary: Google Fi’s “Unlimited Standard” is an affordable plan for a family of four to six people. All the data you need, plus loads of tethering data, roaming in Canada and Mexico, all for an affordable price. Incentives might make the time right for you to switch.
The Network: T-Mobile
The “Unlimited Standard” Plan
- $25 per month when you have four to six lines
- Pricing is less competitive for less than four lines
- 50GB of high speed data
- 25GB of tethering
- Roaming in Canada and Mexico included
- Wi-Fi Auto Connect+ for Pixel phones (a promised feature that gives an automatic Wifi connection in congested areas like stadiums and airports)
- No contract
Incentives
From time to time Google Fi will offer HUGE incentives to switch in the form of bill credits, financing deals, and other mechanisms. Recently I added lines for my two kids and each time I add a line they offer discounts of hundreds of dollars toward the purchase of phones from their store and/or service. The phones purchases don’t have to be used with that specific line, but rather with any line on your plan for a certain period of time to remain eligible for the discount. For example, I added a line for my son and got a great discount on a Pixel 10 pro. I gave my son my existing Pixel 9 Pro and I used the Pixel 10 Pro.
How “Unlimited” is this Unlimited Plan?
You get 50GB of high speed data before your data speeds will slow. You also have the option to use up to 25GB of tethered data (which will count toward your 50GB limit). All of these amounts are per-line. These data amounts used to be 35GB of data and 5GB of tethering. Data increased when the price increase was announced.
I have six people in my plan (my parents, my kids, and my wife and I). We have NEVER run out of data on any of our lines. Also, since the increase to the 25GB of tethered data we have never run into that limit either.
Usage Experience
Coverage and availability for higher speeds has been improving over my time with Google Fi. I attribute this to the continued rollout of 5G networks in the area.
I’m often at my children’s sporting events where there are hundreds or even thousands of spectators. My phone still works just fine and I can even stream video with minimal buffering in congested usage areas.
International Roaming
The “Unlimited Standard” plan also comes with coverage for Canada and Mexico. My family did a Canadian mega-vacation this year and relied heavily on our Google Fi coverage. I found that in the major cities we had coverage, but there were often large dead spots between major cities in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. We had great coverage at the cities we were staying and doing stuff at, including Kingsville, Montreal, Quebec City, and Halifax.
Wi-Fi Auto Connect+
This is a feature that is supposedly available now for Pixel phones using Google Fi. When enabled, your phone will automatically connect to wifi networks for even better coverage in congested areas like stadiums and airports. This is a new feature and I’ve been to two sporting events since it rolled out. This feature was not available at the United Center in Chicago or the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit when I recently went to hockey games. While Wi-Fi Auto Connect+ seems promising, I’ve seen no benefit from it yet.
Migration Experience
Porting lines over in 2022 from Republic Wireless was easy. More recently in 2025 I ported a line from Google Voice with zero issues as well.
Additional Pricing Information for “Unlimited Standard”

Other Google Fi Plans
- “Unlimited Premium” plan that comes with even more data and tethering, international data in 200+ destinations, and even more. This plan can cost $40 to $65 depending on how many lines you have.
- “Unlimited Essentials” plan that comes with 30GB of high speed data, no tethering, and no international roaming. This plan can costs $23 to $35 depending on how many lines you have.
- “Flexible” plan you pay $17 to $20 per month depending on the amount of lines PLUS $10 per GB. Data can be used in over 200 destinations. This is not a compelling plan for me, perhaps the audience is people who use barely any data but want to go to many different countries. Southpaw has a great review of her Flexible Plan Experience.
