So, after getting the welcome text at 1 am last night, I got three boost credit emails a couple hours ago (11am). But, still on Republic network after rebooting (all is still working thankfully) and can’t log in to the boost app yet. So, this really is a slow process…
I’m not meaning to sound argumentative, however, details are important to me. Boost Infinite didn’t buy any Republic Wireless customers. DISH Wireless, LLC (parent company to both the Republic Wireless and Boost Infinite brands) bought Republic Wireless customers in May of 2021, has been serving them since and that’s not changing. Whether branded as Republic Wireless by DISH or Boost Infinite, one’s service is being provided by DISH Wireless, LLC.
DISH has made a business decision it would rather provide service to soon to be former Republic Wireless customers under the Boost Infinite brand and retire the Republic Wireless brand. For DISH Wireless, retiring the Republic Wireless brand is a way to also retire back end systems inherited from the old Republic and to consolidate marketing around the Boost Infinite brand.
I have residual affinity for the old Republic Wireless. I have no affinity for or loyalty to DISH Wireless, LLC, Boost Infinite or any other DiSH Wireless brand. Consequently, I made my own business decision and dumped DISH Wireless, LLC.
I’m usually more pedantic than that, but this transition limbo has me being less precise. Point taken (I added a parenthetical addendum to define Dish Corp as the culprit).
I suppose I hold the Dish corporation & all relevant subsidiaries culpable for the limbo status that has me wondering if I’ll miss the call from my family in the hospital in another state for hopefully lifesaving treatment.
On a lighter note, who do you think is actually responsible for the transfer from Republic wireless to Boost Infinite? I mean, who’s driving the process that a particular phone (or group of phones) will switch?
I’m wondering if there are anymore employees of Republic Wireless remaining (or if those who remained are technically Dish or Boost Infinite employed now).
Have you actually lost service? Those are the folks who’ve been most poorly served. In theory, the “seamless” transition results in no service interruption. I fully appreciate waiting for something to happen is frustrating, however, so long as service remains intact, does it matter what the brand is? For members with 5.0 plans, I suggest thinking of the difference between service from Republic Wireless by DISH and Boost Infinite as the difference between a Chevy and a Buick. Just as both Chevy and Buick are General Motors under the hood, Republic Wireless by DISH and Boost Infinite are both DISH Wireless, LLC under the hood.
You mention specific circumstances that make reliability a perfectly reasonable concern. Frankly; if I had doubts about my current service provider’s ability to provide service I’m depending upon, I’d have redundant service in place and/or I wouldn’t remain a customer of the service provider of which I was uncertain.
I’m not certain I understand the question. Generally, it’s DISH Wireless that made the business decision to retire the Republic Wireless brand and migrate remaining subscribers to another of its brands Boost Infinite.
If you’re asking how it’s decided in which order particular accounts are migrated and when, your guess is as good as mine.
If your asking about employees of the old Republic Wireless before DISH, as far as I know, no one remains with Republic Wireless by DISH/Boost Infinite and, as far as I know, that’s been the case since May of 2021.
DISH Wireless, LLC acquired the Republic brand and its subscribers but did not actually buy Republic Wireless, Inc. The corporate entity once known as Republic Wireless, Inc. changed its name to Relay, Inc. and continues as an independent company marketing Relay devices. The bottom line is Republic Wireless before DISH and Republic Wireless by DISH are two entirely different entities with separate groups of employees.
tl;dr: Neither Republic Wireless by DISH or Boost Infinite are companies. They are brands owned by DISH Wireless, LLC.
Two employees went to work at Dish, though neither is in a role that would be defined as
I was about to lose MMS messaging, as it counts towards data limit I was about it hit, but they added a little data to tide me over (so I’m left having to consider that).
I have alternate means of communication, but messaging via phone number is the way some elderly people in a group chat is how to communicate.
As for what I mean about who does what…
I’m will “Republic Wireless by Dish” now on a 5.0 plan (just went through THAT change a couple months back when they didn’t know how to fix a service issue then without changing SIM and network). When I call the number provided for the transfer from RW to BI brands, I’m left with the impression they don’t actually know what’s going on.
…so, I’m just wondering what group of people will be actually making the hand-off from RW to BI. Wondering if it’s 2 divisions or one group of people at the company that’ll actually initiate the handoff.
One is left wondering if one’s phone service may stop working at any moment.
Hi @MotoMaker,
I can tell you with 100% certainty that the people answering the phone when you call, no matter if you’re calling the RWbD number, or the Boost Infinite number, have nothing to do with the work involved in making the migration. You won’t find engineers manning the phones at a call center.
Call center work is miserable, stressful, thankless work. The turnover rate is extremely high. This means new people are having to be trained all the time, so it can be hard to find an agent who has experience and the knowledge that comes with tenure. Getting bad answers on the phone should not make you think that the people doing the work to migrate our lines don’t know what they are doing.
There’s no real hand-off to be made, especially for 5.0 customers. Dish is moving a bunch of accounts from one plan to another.
That has already happened for some of the customers. Knowing who is doing the work won’t change the fact that this is a possibility.
If you have these concerns, why wait in uncertainty? What stops you from moving your number to a new provider? Dish has demonstrated that they can’t keep their focus on a single strategy for more than a few months at a time and that at an executive level they have no qualms about disrupting people’s lives with each strategy change. What value is there in continuing to subject yourself to this kind of behavior?
Update from this 5.0 user. Checked and hotspot has stopped working. When I turn off wifi, I have no data and am asked to sign into Republic which then gives a message about being out of data or needing to make a payment (see attached screenshot). Phone network still says Republic and still can’t sign into Boost app yet, so hopefully this means the transition is in process.
As I mentioned in a different post above, I got a text on Friday welcoming me to boost and three emails noting different Boost credit amounts. So, I figured something should happen soon as nothing did Saturday or Sunday until now.
Lastly, I got into a laptop and logged into Republic Wireless’s website (no login option appears on my phone whether I use the mobile or desktop site options). I could login with no issue and two of my lines still show as active (x.xxGB/20GB), but the third line (my actual phone) just has the 20GB and no line for add-on data like the other two lines do.
Heading to bed so hopefully this is complete by the morning… Fingers and toes crossed!
Well, still no transfer to Boost. Republic service was back up and working this morning for my drive in to work, so who knows what is going on…lol.
I did notice that now all three of the lines on my Republic account no longer show the amount of 20GB of data used rather than just 1 last night. So, maybe things are progressing?
It’s been crickets here as well since the failed attempt.
Any updates for any 5.0 people transferring yet? No changes for me from what I posted above - seem to be in a sort of purgatory between RW and BI.
No change for my phone yet. Still wondering when it’ll be Boost Infinite. Next billing date with Republic would usually be in 5 days
Small chirpy insect noises. I’d really love to get on with this, good or bad.
No changes for any of the three phones in my house. We’ve all gotten the “transition is imminent” text–twice–but nothing further.
No changes for me yet. chirp chirp
Sun 9/10/23 I called BI in an attempt to get some status (previously ignored by executivecustomerservice@dish.com). The support rep did all the right things, checked my account to make sure I had updated things, and then said that I should be transferred to BI within a couple of days, however, when I pushed a bit he said they would all be transferred by 9/30/2023 … I doubt that many would put much stock in that
So… sometime in just the next few hours (432, now 419 hours or less)?
Received this text several hours ago –
Boost Infinite: Welcome! We’re super excited you’re here. If you need anything, check out our help center: https://help.boostinfinite.com
We have two phones on the account, but only received this text. No E-mail or any indication we need to do anything (like reboot the phone or install the BI app). Looks like the phone is still on the Republic network.
Feels like we’re waiting for the other shoe to fall Guess we’ll see what the day brings!
Same situation here. Wife and I each have our phones on the same account. Wife got the message. I didn’t.
When i got the boost infinite welcome text i restarted my phone and after doing that i was able to create an account on the boost infinite app using the phone number designated as the main account number if you have two lines. Its never not going to say republic in the upper right hand corner on android at least unless you change the apn settings. Republic wireless and boost infinite have the exact same apn settings except for one difference, the name field. I linked the apn settings in this thread further up
