I just got this text a few minutes ago, too. But I already got my email and followed the instructions.
Yes, I got the email and put in my phone number and CODE. Reentered my payment info. though it was already there. So from that standpoint I was signed in. The sign in I was confused about was the app and when I would be able to sign onto that. You answered that question. I won’t be able to sign onto that until I’m migrated. Even though I had already done that I just received an urgent text saying that I need to do what I had already done. So, I did it again. Still the same. The only thing that puzzles me now is why I get a message across the top that says they are unable to process…even though my payment info is there and is the same since 2014. I just updated the expiration date a few weeks ago which I noted was correct. So lets hope this is really seamless.
I wouldn’t read too much into that. It’s entirely possible the text is being sent to all members without first checking to see who has and who hasn’t provided payment information.
I also received the text even though I’ve already ported my number out. I still need to cancel service because, apparently, unlike just about every other provider out there porting out doesn’t automatically cancel service with Republic Wireless by DISH.
I’m toying with the idea of not bothering and seeing what happens with migration. I’ve provided no payment information on the transition website and won’t be doing so.
I have used PdaNet in the past. A VPN is another option for working around restrictions on hotspot data use.
That said, I’ll inject some caution. Perhaps, things are done differently at Boost Infinite but from observing its subreddit, Boost Mobile is not shy about shutting down accounts of those it perceives as violating terms of service by using “excessive” data. Generally, this is done without warning.
I am going to ‘check’ …
Going to have to check that before the 28th, with RW.
I noticed, on BI-app, zero ‘data’ used, with 31-days to go.
I assume that will change.
Know several have already ported out from RW by DISH. We might be gluttons for punishment, but if the migration goes well, we plan to stick it out and see what the Boost Infinite service is like.
Others may have had a different experience, but we were pleased with the service on the RW by DISH 5.0 plan. During this time we made a coast-to-coast trip and had a few weeks in Alaska. We rated the service as more than acceptable for our travels. Yes, we had to adjust to no visual voice mail, but changes were minor. Biggest change was actually going from Motorola to Samsung phones.
Figure we have 6 months to test and see if the Boost Infinite service works for us with no change in cost. The experience will need to be pretty good considering the fact that our cost after 6 months will double. And to top it off, no hot spot unless we do a $10/mo per phone add-on. A minor plus, we might be able to get a visual voice mail app working on our Samsung phones with Boost.
This might be a hard sell . . . time will tell. From all we read, the migration from the 5.0 plan to Boost Infinite should be pretty straight forward. Hope others who make the migration from 5.0 share their experiences here.
Indeed, I am among those not migrating to Boost Infinite. That, however, is an individual decision each of us makes. There is no right or wrong decision just what one thinks is the right decision for their circumstances.
Do you need “unlimited”? Because; if not, there are multiple options in the market that would likely cut your cost right now. Further; if one is interested in unlimited, while competitive, there is nothing special about Boost Infinite’s pricing. Multiple options with similar pricing (some inclusive of hotspot) exist in the market.
I would expect Boost’s Visual Voicemail app to work. In fact, if you haven’t tried recently, it wouldn’t surprise me if it worked with Republic 5.0. Boost’s Visual Voicemail app is an updated and rebranded version of DISH Visual Voicemail. DISH Visual Voicemail is no longer available.
The service experience on Boost Infinite should be substantially the same as Republic 5.0. It’s like buying a Chevy instead of a Buick. The branding is different but under the hood, it’s the same thing. That’s why for members with 5.0 plans, there is no need for a new SIM.
If I believed the customer support experience was likely to be better with Boost Infinite than with Republic 5.0, I probably would have migrated.
That’s what’s been promised and, hopefully, what is delivered. Given the reality of migrations across multiple DISH brands, I don’t take for granted that which has been promised is what will be delivered.
Agreed!
Thanks @rolandh for sharing your insight. Always find that helpful. The discussions in this forum are useful and full of information that will help with any future decision to change carriers. If it comes to that
As of this morning, Sunday 20th August, has anyone been upgraded to Boost Infinite as yet?
If you did, how was the transfer To Boost experience.?
Hi Zaga
I had some ‘issues’ migrating to BI…(didn’t get the Email w/code, double set of SIMS, porting took awhile).
Was finally ‘moved’ on Friday, so far, no issues, other than I might need to ‘tweak’ some SMS/MMS and Voicemail settings.
HI, thanks for reply. I am anxious for my transfer to happen. Hoping for the best. I have been with RW since 2014. I’m on 5.0 plan so according to RW II don’t need to replace SIM.
Spent 2 hours Friday on hold to then spend exactly 1 minute asking for the code for my dad’s transition to boost. He never received any emails about it unlike myself.
Gave up on expecting any kind of notice and called the support number. Gave them a card number and a PIN code, they said they will be doing the transition this week but can’t be sure how the Ambassador line will translate. I’ve changed my mind on tactics for Canada testing. I have put the RW/DISH/BoostInfinite SIM in my old Samsung Galaxy A11. I’ll be taking that to Canada with me and we’ll see what happens. Based on prior history and the somewhat confused responses from support, the expected result is: No Service.
This way I’m running two Canada tests at the same time. For details on that, see this thread.
Well here it is Monday 21 August and nothing. Maybe there are only a handful of us left on the 5.0 plan that are sticking it out and waiting for the migration…haha
Looking forward to reading and/or sharing our experience with the 5.0 to Boost Infinite migration…I think
There are many still on 5.0, the notification I received from RW, indicates it would start the migration on the 20th… patience
Starting on 8/20/23, your service will be transitioned from Republic Wireless to Boost Infinite’s $25 plan. This will happen seamlessly, and you’ll receive a notification when complete.
As a long time Republic Wireless member, I’m accustomed to the term soon®.
I suppose I was one of the first, and will leave as one of the last Republic Wireless members.
Now we know why some haven’t yet received email notice. It would seem they’ve created a new plan for those on “Everywhere You Go”. Hotspot, international calling and North America roaming are ordinarily an additional $10/month each on top of the base price. So those with “Go” plans are getting them for $5/month each.
@mwgardiner, have you received this email?
Not yet. I’ll watch for it.
Hello. How long ago did you get this email?
Hi @Zaga and welcome!
I didn’t because I have an “Everything You Want” plan and already received email notice. A friend forwarded it to me. She has an “Everywhere You Go” plan as, I believe, does @mwgardiner?
Unless you also have an “Everywhere You Go” plan, you shouldn’t expect to receive this email. If you’ve not yet received email notice, it’s possible it went to a spam folder or was rejected by a server between you and Republic. Email is not a perfect means of communication.
I appreciate folks are anxious to get the transition over with, however, Republic never said everyone would be migrated in the first day or two. It’s a staged migration being done in batches and, for some, it may take until as late as 8/31/23 for their migration to take place.
