So far so good. Got the text overnight and was able to get into the app this morning. Mostly looks good, but for my IMEI showing for both phones and I’ve been demoted from Line 1 to Line 2. Stuff seems to be working. Whew!
I haven’t received a note on the subject, but as a test, I toggled on Hotspot for the Boost Infinite line and it it is working, or doing en extremely good imitation thereof.
Unlike @grandbobby, our E-mail did not mention anything about the discounted rate. In fact, we’re still hoping to get the a message that the second line on the account will get hotpsot capability since Line 2 had/has the same plan as Line 1. We did test Line 2 and the hotspot does not work; Line 1 is working.
At least both lines show as active in the BI app. A major accomplishment!
I opened the BI app today, and there’s a bill available, in the amount of $25 plus tax and surcharges.
My Republic bill in May 2023 was significantly less. Shouldn’t I be getting billed for the May 2023 amount for the next six months? How to resolve this issue?
I’d start with the chat option right there in the app.
You haven’t received any credits on your account yet?
I’m curious why you’re specifying May. Was your RW bill different in August or September?
I think they are giving out credits to offset the discounts. My regular bill date was Sep7 but was not charged. About 2 weeks later I was migrated and then received a $28 credit. I assume to give me my discount up front.
My RW bill was the same in August as in May 2023. I was not billed in September.
The email that RW sent me on August 7, announcing the transition to Boost Infinite, contained these exact words:
“If your Republic plan was less than $25/month as of May 2023, your payment will stay the same for the first six months.”
I called the BI support line. They told me I should expect a credit on my account before the one month mark past my transition date, which was September 29.
Good Morning @psteckler,
Boost Infinite bills 15 days into the billing cycle. So, for you, that would be 15 days from 9/29 or 10/14. Hopefully, you see any applicable credits before billing takes place.
From the FAQ on the still available transition website at boostinfinite.com/republic:
Why did my credit not go through?
We appreciate your patience - please give us 15 days post activation to move account credits to Infinite. If you believe one is missing our Republic Care will be able to help you out at 833-588-5820.
thought i’d chime in to share my transitioning experience:
- finally transitioned on Wed Sept 27
- primary phone was tranferred before the secondary phone line; for a handful of hours the boost infinite app suggested something went wrong moving the secondary line but all was well after waiting a bit longer
- boost infinite supports at&t and tmobile based backend service; as a legacy RW user we transitioned to at&t based service. switching to tmobile would require a new sim card
- switching sim cards requires a physical sim card unless you have an iphone where you can use eSIM. although plenty of android phones support eSIM, boost won’t do it for anything but iphones
- all APN updates were automatic; everything is still labelled as “Republic” though, nothing says “Boost Infinite” anywhere
- switching to tmobile backend requires a new sim card which can only be provided by ACCOUNT RETENTION, not regular support. that’s the team you get to when you say, “i want to cancel service… but maybe i’d stick around if i were happier here”… so for now i haven’t gone that far.
- data performance:
- feels much slower than on legacy RW service; appears to be some high latency, but overall throughput is about the same
- BI support suggested the issue is likely with at&t towers in my area
- the issue is mitigated when using a VPN so it appears to be traffic shaping related
- BI support informed me that i should expect 43Mbps - 143MBps on 5G
- i actually see zero to 40 Mbps on 5G
- speed tests using fast.com are not reliable as that site is run by netflix and subjected to bandwidth throttling (1.5Mbps)
- officially recognized tool is speedtest.net (run by ookla); they ask you to use the site not the app
i’m not entirely pleased with the service, but i think my major pain point comes from at&t being so meh around here. verizon would be worse, but not by much - i have regionds i routinely drive through where at&t service drops out and data performance is always an order of magnitude less than tmobile.
i think i’ll pester the retention team soon and fight for a tmobile based sim card to test on one of my lines of service. if it’s better as i expect it to be, i’ll work to switch the other too.
You can choose to get a T-Mobile SIM with US Mobile.
I am just the opposite. AT&T works great in my area. T-Mobile has a lot of dead spots. If BI sent me a T-Mobile SIM, I would send it back.
I can’t seem to find a coverage map for their “warp 5g”. it sounds like, similar to dish, they are rolling their own 5g above and beyond the MNO networks they leverage otherwise… but i can’t find any info at all on whether i’d see their warp 5g here in eastern MA?
yeah, i hear you. lacking quality service is the pits. at&t mostly works for me here, but the data rates are abysmal and voice calls drop any time i leave my house while on a call (there are a half dozen little dead zones scattered around my area with one smack in the middle of the single dirt road leading out of my little neighborhood).
still - it generally works. i travel and can get an uber/etc when i need to. worst case scenario it’s really uncomfortable, not completely broken. still - tmobile around here is great and i’d love to get that other sim car. if they send you one don’t send it back to them, send it to ME instead!
USM’s Warp 5G is on the Verizon network with their GSM offering being T-Mobile. They get priority service on both networks just as direct Verizon and T-Mobile customers receive.
BI app show autopay will be on 10/14. My last RW autopay was 9/4. transferred on 9/29
Hi @Clem,
10/14 is correct. Unlike Republic (which was prepaid), Boost Infinite is postpaid (sort of) service. Boost Infinite bills 15 days into one’s billing cycle. Migrated Republic members billing cycles with Boost Infinite start on the day of migration.
@old_engineer is correct. What US Mobile markets as “Warp 5G” is Verizon network service and “GSM 5G” is T-Mobile network service. US Mobile is not an MNO.
DISH has built a standalone 5G network said to cover 70% of the U.S. population and currently compatible with three phones. Those phones are:
- iPhone 15 series
- 2023 Motorola Edge+
- Celero 5G
Other than the above models, Boost Infinite activates phones on either AT&T’s or T-Mobile’s network at their discretion.
DISH/Boost, for the time being, is a hybrid MNO/MVNO.
If you have an iphone, which I have, it is possible to have dual sims. I am using republic wireless(now BI) AT&T on esim and a physical Hello Mobile tmobile sim. Other brands also have available esim. Discussion here
Just to update. I’m transitioned over. I was able to get into the Boost app (shows no bill) and they emailed that I got a $54 credit. So it seems like it’s going to be right. I didn’t need a new SIM. Had to restart the phone once each (when it said not able to connect to Republic). So far so good. Data is the same. Calls and text work. Still shows I haven’t used any data (I have though) but figured all that stuff will come in time. Just glad things are working.
yeah - my phone supports eSIM and multiple simultaneous SIMs as well (pixel 6a), but BI hasn’t tested eSIM on anything but iPhone so they don’t support any other compliant devices at this time. it’s a limitation of the carrier not the phone.
No DISH Wireless brand currently supports eSIM on Android. I’m currently using a Pixel 6a with a Mobi physical SIM and a Helium Mobile eSIM.
If you want to compare T-Mobile’s network with AT&T’s network simultaneously on your Pixel 6a, you could pick up T-Mobile’s eSIM trial but it sounds like you already know T-Mobile is the superior network for you.
